Nature Commitments is a platform that highlights conservation efforts from all around the world. These commitments can be big or small, but they are designed to inspire action
The platform draws attention to the role that civil society such as local authorities, Indigenous peoples, and local communities, can play in achieving global ambitions for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. It aims to recognize and encourage commitments to conserve areas of land and water. Examples of commitments include actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore nature in a given area of land or sea rather than building on it or deciding to improve the way an area is managed to maximise benefits for both human well-being and the species that live there.
"The Nature Commitments platform is a valuable new space for NGOs, businesses, indigenous peoples and local communities to share their commitments to protect and restore areas of land and water. ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability supports this initiative by UNEP-WCMC in the spirit of collaboration, and we are pleased that it complements our CitiesWithNature Action Platform, which is the recognized place for city governments to share their actions and commitments to nature."
"@IUCN and @unepwcmc have worked in partnership for decades – we’re delighted to extend this synergy and complementarity through mutual documentation of conservation through the IUCN Contributions for Nature Platform and the new UNEP-WCMC Nature Commitments Platform."
